Work in Offline Mode

If you're in Offline Mode, your POS, Kitchen Display System (KDS) device(s), and/or Toast Go® device(s) will display a yellow banner at the top.

On the yellow banner, select What To Do to bring up more information about what you should and should not do on your device.

Don't unplug Ethernet cables, turn off any Toast devices, log out of/uninstall the Toast app, or select Capture. You may select Switch User, but don't select Logout.

Notify all staff who use Toast devices:

☐ Stick to one device so order and payment information can be stored together. Different employees can use different devices but each employee should stick to the same device for the duration of the outage.
☐ Save a receipt for every check and save the merchant copies of all credit and debit card payments. This can assist in reconciliation and potential chargebacks.
Activating and redeeming gift cards are unavailable during Offline Mode. Similarly, you cannot apply loyalty accounts or redeem loyalty rewards.
Employees must clock out on the same device they clocked in on. If employees are required to do shift reviews, they will be unable to clock out.
☐ The KDS will continue receiving tickets for any new in-store orders in case of an internet or Toast service disruptions. It will not work for Toast Online Ordering or any orders from outside the location.

☐ You may wish to temporarily disable online ordering since your restaurant cannot receive orders from Toast Online Ordering channels*, or other third parties while offline. Don't forget to turn it back on once your connection is restored.

Continue to take credit/debit card payments as long as you've enabled Background Credit Card Processing beforehand. It's best practice to verify the cardholder's name and card expiration date, especially when you are offline.
☐  In most cases, printing receipts, opening cash drawers, and entering tips are all unaffected by connection disruptions/outages as long as Ethernet cables have not been unplugged.
